- UNFINISHED DREAMS

FRED:	It's still a little rough, I know; but..

Fred points to the interior of the house/stage which is nothing more than row
after row of 2x4s.

ABIGAIL:	A little rough? Fred, what is this?

FRED:	Our house.

ABIGAIL:	Oh, no. Noooo this is not our house. I don't know who's house it is
...but it's not our house...it can't be our house.

FRED:	Yes it is. This is the living room. Over here is the kitchen, with
                a dishwasher ... disposal ... washer and dryer ...

Fred points to invisible appliances as he goes from unfinished room to unfinished room, zigzagging around his 2x4 walls.

ABIGAIL:	What kitchen!! (she walks through the designated wall)
There's no kitchen here. I don't see any kitchen. (she turns to
him) Fred, you lied to me.

FRED:	I didn't lie.

ABIGAIL:	You did to!! You said it was finished. You said we could
                move in.

FRED:	We can ... in a month or so.

ABIGAIL:	"Or so"? You never said "or so". I don't remember hearing "or
so". You said "in a month we could move in."

FRED:	We can.

ABIGAIL:	That was three months ago!! You've been down here over a
                year and ...

FRED:	Not a whole year.

ABIGAIL:	It might as well have been. I'd see you one day and then not again
		for weeks.

FRED:	You could've come down anytime.

ABIGAIL:	Come down and stay where?

Fred turns and points upstairs, but before he can answer, she continues ...

ABIGAIL:	... Besides I have a job. I'm a Real Estate agent! I can't just
just up and leave. People are counting on me. I have
responsibilities, obligations, there are houses to sell and...

She gasps and stops suddenly, remembering what she has done. Fred continues unaware.

FRED:	I thought you said the market had been slow.

ABIGAIL:	(defensive) ... so? Ooohhh Fred, look at this place! It's
                nothing more than 2x4s!!

FRED:	I wanted to finish the outside first. That way we could finish off each room
                as we need them.

ABIGAIL:	But we need them now!! Oh, Fred, I was crazy to let you come down
here by yourself. I never should have let you leave town.

FRED:	Abby, building a house takes time.

ABIGAIL:	It takes time? IT TAKES TIME!! If I hear "it takes time"
one more time I'm going to scream. Do you realize, it's
Christmas Eve and our entire family is coming here to spend
Christmas with us! What are we going to do? You deliberately
led me to believe this house was finished!

FRED:	It's almost finished. It just needs a few things....

ABIGAIL:	A few things! Fred there're no windows. There's no plaster.
There's no paint. There're no walls! Fred, it doesn't have
		any WALLS!!

She sticks her head between two 2x4s.

FRED:	I was getting to that.

ABIGAIL:	And just when did you think you were going to get to that?

FRED:	As soon as I finished the plumbing.

ABIGAIL:	(afraid to ask) What's wrong with the plumbing?
